HAPPINESS
My foot is completely healed now. We put Neosporin on it twice a day so that’s why it healed so fast. When we were sure the sore had healed Dad took me into the pool. I was a little reluctant about going in. I don’t remember if I had ever been swimming before but of course being the great Lab that I am I took to the water immediately. At first I had trouble finding the stairs. I know where they are now. After a couple of times of being coerced into the water I feel like a real water dog. In fact when Dad was out checking the fig tree I just sauntered in on my own and swam around a bit. Everyone was laughing at me. I don’t know why. I have special toys that I can chase into the pool. I also get to go on many more walks and rides in the car. My Mom got me a special halter-like lead that slips over my nose. It is really comfortable and it is easy for me to understand what they want me to do. My life is going very well.
This next Tuesday the City Dog pet store is having a fund raiser for me. It is going to be at the Indigo Hotel down town San Diego. They call it “Yappy Hour”. People come with their dogs and have nibbles and drinks. They have snacks for the dogs also. I am really excited. I think I will see the two labs that I lived with when they were trying to find a home for me. They were good buddies. I will tell you all about it in my next blog. Until then God Bless.

SETTLING IN
I am very happy in my new home. I have a little sister named Mandy. She is a Terrier mix from the Amanda Foundation in Los Angeles. They rescue animals from the Los Angeles area. Mandy is 12 and kind of crotchety but she is coming around and I think she cannot resist my gentlemanly manner. I am very special you know. We had two white poodle mix dogs visiting for a while but they are gone now. They do come to visit occasionally. I like them because they jump all over and run around like crazy. They are fun. Their names are Mimi and Kobe (of course after Kobe Bryant). I also have a buddy named Riley. He is a very handsome Yellow Labrador. He visits occasionally also.
JAKES SEARCH FOR A NEW HOME
Blog #1
My name is Jake and I am a seven year old Black Labrador (and very handsome if I do say so myself). I have been rescued by a loving family and now have a very happy home. Life did not start so well though. I don’t remember way back but I do remember a nice lady rescuing me from the Labrador Rescue Group in San Diego. That was about three or four years ago. As it turned out, sadly, she developed cancer and had to move from her home and could not take me with her. I was very sad. She was using me as an Assistance Dog and I had special tags. She gave me to some very nice people at the “City Dog” Pet Store in downtown San Diego to try to find a home for me. I was given to a couple for the weekend but they decided they did not want to spend the time I needed so they took me back to the store. Another nice couple had friends that had just lost a 12 year old black lab and they were very sad. They were convinced after much coaxing to come see me. It was love at first site. They took me home and I am here to stay. In my next blog I will continue my story.

Bad and Good News
Blog #3
Now, the sad part of my story: After a few days my owners found blood spots on the patio and noticed that I had a large (golf ball size) growth on my left front leg near my food pad. It was time to get it checked at the Vet. They were concerned and determined it was Cancer and needed to come off but they felt they could not do the surgery because it was so close to my paw. We decided to get a second opinion and had the same results. Both doctors suggested Dr. Tarvin could do the surgery if anyone could. He is at the Animal Specialty Group in Kearny Mesa. I had all kinds of test to be sure the cancer had not spread and luckily it had not. They did the surgery the next day and I was able to go home a day after that. Boy, was I happy to get home! They are not sure they were able to get all the Cancer but we all are praying. We have spent the last month and a half going in to have my leg bandaged and the brace replaced. We had to go every two or three days. I loved our trips to the Animal Specialty Group because the ladies there were so nice and I got to hang my head out the car window all the way to and from. Monday they took off the brace and today I am bandage free. My Mom and Dad need to put Neosporin on my sore two or three times a day. I go back in two weeks. Wish me luck. My next Blog will be soon and I will keep you up to date on my activities. If the weather gets better I am going swimming.
